Groundhog Day

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow yesterday and predicted six more weeks of winter.
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa.—The world's most famous groundhog saw his shadow Monday morning, predicting that this already long winter will last for six more weeks. Punxsutawney Phil emerged just after dawn in front of an estimated 13,000 witnesses, many dressed in black and gold to celebrate the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl victory the night before.

Learn about GroundhogDay - Annually celebrated in United States and Canada on 2nd February, Groundhog Day is a well known holiday that revolves around the popular weather lore of the coming out of a groundhog from its burrow on this date to look for its shadow. The winter is nearing an end if the groundhog sees its shadow and if it retreats into its hole in its absence the cold season is likely to continue for 6 more weeks. Here is a link to TheHolidaySpot which brings you a wonderful section on Groundhog Day consisting of informative articles on the history and origin of the day as also attractive wallpapers, pictures to color, e-cards and an entertaining quiz related to the occasion.

It appears we are bracing for yet another storm this afternoon, although I think we will be fine for class tomorrow.

I love the snow and how beautiful it is. The children get so excited. I ususally tell them to run to the window, look for thier favorite shaped snowflake and then get back to work. This will work to keep them all focused for another minute or two! ha ha
