  1. Mary,
Thanks to your inspiriation, I've started working on a wiki modeled on yours for a Curriculum Leadership course that I am teaching starting in October. I used two videos from our first day of class, the parody about good teaching and the one about 21st century learners, with our new NM teachers. Those videos helped the new teachers to our district talk about what good and bad teaching are, and they "created" the principles of effective teaching with their inspiration.
Now I want to figure out how to make the curriculum course look and feel like a 21st century skills course.
Thank you, Mary. I can tell this is just the beginning!

  2. I shared the class website I created with some colleagues, but was told that to share it I have to link it to the school account so that it can filter the content. That means that the youtube videos I used to help parents with Singapore Math won't be able to be accessed because we filter youtube.
I have chosen to do a professional project for my evaluation related to technology. The computer teacher, two other colleagues, and I plan on using what we learned in the last course and this one to collaboratively create a usuable resourse. We are still deciding on the exact project.
I have also been using my Smartboard every day, which was the other course I took with Mary this summer.
Overall, I feel more confident using the computer with students each day and look forward to learning more.

  3. Mary, I am looking forward to learning more on the web. I have made a classroom website and used it with my students and parents. It has been successful so far. Cynthia has also put it on the Ashby Home page. I am showing power point presentations to my class daily and using the smart board for math, spelling, reading, and science. I discovered a tool (power point remote) so that I can move around the classroom while switching my slides. I am very excited because these are new to me even though I am behind the times. It makes me feel as though teaching is new!

  4. My computer finally let go and am now practicing with my tablet pc. Working on getting what I can out of my antiquated Mimio Board (I miss my SmartBoard). This week end I will be transferring my bookmarks to Delicious. Still blogging and following other on Twitter and Classroom 2.0. My daughter’s wedding was this past weekend and can now focus more on web tools.

  5. Since the summer Web 2.0 class I have been using Google Docs. It has really streamlined the process of sharing information. The computer teachers joined together and uploaded important information needed for software installation and training with the new Eno boards. We are also currently modifying our district's AUPs (acceptable use policies). With a stronger, clearer policy, we are looking at unblocking more Web 2.0 features like YouTube. If anyone would like to help with the policies, let me know! I have had lots of fun with my iGoogle home page and have found tons of useful information from the RSS feed I have coming into Google Reader. I catch up with Twitter every so often and have gotten some great information there as well - thanks for KUBBU Mary! Looking forward to seeing everyone in class on Monday!

  6. Mary,
I started using Google Docs in our first Web 2.0 class to take notes on all of the tools and resources you have supplied us with. I have continued to use and share Google Docs with my colleagues and other people. I also have been using Skype to stay in touch with people. I check into Twitter when I can as well. I look forward to taking some already created projects to the next level of technology with this class.

  7. Hi Mary,
How does time go so fast? With my students I've done a few Wordles to introduce the internet and some new concepts, thanks for that little bit of "wow factor." As far as web 2.0 tools, I've worked with Dawn to collect data using Google Docs and have Skyped with technology people at Central Office.
An interesting thought: I have people within the building that are interested in creating wikkis, the fact that other people besides Paula and I know what a wikki is, really is a sign of "CHANGING TIMES!"

  10. I am so impressed with everyone’s enthusiasm and the fact you are all using and applying Web 2.0 tools. The rest of my summer was busy; I delivered a one week SMARTBoard Class to Harvard Elementary School during the last week of August. The district did a great job coordinating SMARTBoards and training prior to the start of the new year. I also blended Web 2.0 into the class by using a blog, Rockyou, SlideShare and Video, here is the link http://smartinteractiveclassroom.blogspot.com/ . While teaching the class I took pictures and video with the Flip Cameras and linked to the blog. Returning to school this month was exhausting but I continue to explore new tools. Last week I uploaded a SlideShare, and tried a new feature, linking a YouTube video to the presentation. You can see in the class blog. I was inspired by a lesson in the English Companion Ning by Doug Valentine, an elementary librarian in Texas, creates booktalks with his students using: a self-portrait, a booktalk script written by the student, he used Crazy Talk and Glogster and made some great posters http://doctorloopy.glogster.com/Hot-Dog-Book-Reviews. I plan on making a new glog next week. If all goes well in my district next month I plan on piloting Google/Apps for Education with four classes in the high school. I am looking forward to the class and learning with each of you this semester! I am heading to the beach this weekend for one last taste of summer. I will see you on Monday. Mary

PS - Remember to post a book you read over the summer for our Voicethread lesson. I had to post a few times as I did not cut and paste everything from word.

  11. Mary,
I am still waiting for my lcd projector but have my first website up and running. I need to figure out how to change my worksheets, handouts, etc. to pdfs to attach them and just have not time to play. I look forward to working with our group again. Beth

  12. Hi Mary,

I have been using Twitter and have gone on Teachertube and Slideshare to look for material to link to my ELA class material with limited success. I am not always able to find what I am looking for in a timely fashion. I hope that through more forced practice, I will become better at finding what I am looking for! I admit, I have not been as faithful to my goals at the end of the summer course but I hope that this will put me back on track! Look forward to seeing everyone Monday!

  13. Hello,

I am so excited to start up again with the web 2.0 class. I have learned a lot in only one week. Although I have been busy with work and home, I have not really kept up with as much as I wanted to. I did develop some wordles for my students and skyped. I have been searching the teachertube, youtube, facebook, and techlearning sites. I am hoping to continue and develop a blog for my students.

  14. After creating my ning, I decided a wiki would be more appropriate to my purpose(communicating instructional info to parents). Alisa, I'm glad to hear others in our building want to create wikis, too. My daughter introduced me to doodle.com, which is a poll creator that is useful for scheduling meetings. I did a trial run with it and one real poll so far; and I think it will save sp.ed.teachers a lot of time. I'm finding it difficult to find time for twitting, but I'll work on it. I've decided to switch my personal email to gmail, so everything is in one place. I'm trying to get my daughters to get on Skype.
At least two of the teachers I work with just got Eno boards, so I'm going to sit in on the brief training for that this week, just so I know how to work it. I'll share what I can about web 2.0 when planning with colleagues,to help create some valuable interactive lessons.
I'm interested in creating some demonstration videos for parents to put on the wiki. I already have questions about how to explain math concepts to their child and homework directions.

  15. Hello,
Since the beginning of school I have not had time to do my rockyou picture show on the home web page but it is going to happen before the end of the year. I have used google docs with Dawn to update information she needed. I hope to use wordle and glogster in class and have the students create their own.

  17. Hi all! I'm excited to start this new web 2.0 class Monday. I've just purchased a webcam so I can skype with everyone. I occasionally tweet and I use my igoogle page every day. I've also taught other teachers how to set up their igoogle pages. Due to restrictions I haven't used many new web 2.0 tools yet in the library. When things settle down I hope to show the students how to "spice up" their research projects. See you all Monday!

  18. I posted my slide share and voice thread on my blog http://vbesresourcerm-room202.blogspot.com/ . The voice thread is pretty easy, but I need some advice to fix the hyperlinks in my power point before I finish it.

  19. Hi-
Just for clarification you do not need to make a voicethread. I wanted to make a class voicethread by collecting the names of books you have read over the summer in order to create a group voicethread. We can work on this between classes.

  20. Hi all,

This summer I read T is for Trespass by Sue Grafton. It was a suspensful story about a woman using a false identity and the private investigator who lives next door. Of course, a series of events leads to these two characters to a game of cat and mouse, while the welfare of an elderly gentleman is at stake. The book was an easy, relaxing read; perfect for a day on the beach!
